All persons who plan to renew their United States visas are now eligible to do so through dropbox.
Such an announcement has been made by the United States Embassy, while the same has clarified that these requests would not be entertained through the email, VisaGuide.World reports.
In this regard, John Ballard, who serves as a consular chief at the United States General in Mumbai, stressed that the United States Embassy, as well as consulates in India, have prepared in order to receive a record number of visas from students from India during this year.
According to a report provided by the Economic Times, the United States Embassy has processed more than 1,125,000 student visas during the last year.
“It was the most students that we have ever adjudicated here in India and, we expect in 2023, we will have even more Indian students that will be coming into apply for visas,” Ballard told PTI in this regard.
Authorities in the United States last month introduced a new initiative, taking also into account scheduling special interviews for first-time applicants, thus increasing the strength of consular staff.
Following the multi-pronged approach in order to cut the visa backlog, the United States embassy in Delhi as well as the consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, as well as Hyderabad conducted a special Saturday interview day back on January 21.
It has also been emphasized that the mission will still open additional slots in order for appointments to take place on select Saturdays in the following months.
Authorities in the United States also announced that the US mission in India released over 2,50,000 additional appointments for B1 and B2 visas. The B1 visa is a business visa while the B-2 visa is dedicated to all those who plan to travel for tourism purposes.
According to a recent report provided by Axis, it was clarified that Indians account for the most significant number of international students in the United States. Such figures were provided by an Open Doors report.
The same noted that the number of Indian students in the US would surpass China in 2022-2023 after a total of 82,000 student visas were issued for a period from June until August 2022. During the same period, it was reported that the number of student visas issued to students from India was 62,000.
The survey of Open Doors revealed that for a period from 2020 until 2021, the number was 9.41 lakhs which increased to as of 9.48 lakhs in 2021 and 2022.
