The US State Department has announced that it has decided to delay the consular fee increases for nonimmigrant visa applications and Border Crossing Cards for some nationals of Mexico.
According to the US authorities, the fee increases, which were set to become fully effective on May 30, have now been rescheduled to be implemented on June 17, 2023, VisaGuide.World reports.
Under the newly revised fee structure, the application processing fee for non-petition-based nonimmigrant visas, excluding the E category, will be increased to $185 from $160.
Moreover, the application processing fee for H, L, O, P, Q, and R category NIVs will also increase on June 17. As soon as the new fee increases get implemented, the processing fee for these categories will be raised from $190 to $205.
As for E-category NIVs, it has been explained that the fee will increase from $205 o 4315. In addition, the processing fee for the Border Crossing Cards for nationals of Mexico over the age of 15 will be increased from $160 to $185.
The decision to postpone the fee increases for US Visa applications was taken as the final rule was not delivered to the US Senate until April 17, and in line with the current law, there is a legal requirement of a 60-day period review following the submission.
This means that since the final rule was delivered on April 17, the authorities are unable to review it until next month, when the 60-day period is completed. In the meantime, the current fees will continue to remain effective.
Employers, as well as individuals that are affected by these changes, are advised to factor in the adjusted consular fees when planning their budgets. Moreover, it is important that everyone is aware of the new fee structure in order to avoid any financial complications during the visa application process.
The US nonimmigrant visa permits all of its holders to stay in the country for a temporary period. The category of nonimmigrant US visa has several types, and when applying for any of them, applicants must make sure to submit certain documents.
To apply for any US nonimmigrant visa, applicants are required to fill out the DS-160 form. While filling out the form, applicants also have to submit several supporting documents such as the Standard Required Documents for US visas and several other documents depending on the type of visa.
After submitting the form with the required information, applicants need to schedule a visa interview, pay the fee, and wait for the Embassy to process and respond to the visa request following the completion of the interview.
