The administration of Joe Biden has proposed an increase in visa fees, including here the fees for H-1B visas.
In line with the proposal published by the Biden administration, the application fee for the H-1B visa may increase to $780 from $460, VisaGuide.World reports.
Commenting on the increase of the H-1B visa fee, the Department of Homeland Security, said that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services are mainly funded by fees that are charged to applicants as well as petitioners, suggesting that they had no choice but to increase them.
The H-1B visa is a temporary work visa and it is also referred to as a Person in Specialty Occupation Visa. This visa type allows employers in the US to hire highly qualified workers for specific jobs.
Before applying for the H-1B visa, all applicants must make sure that they meet several requirements that make them eligible.
The H-1B visa applicants must prove that they hold an advanced educational degree – a four-year Bachelor’s Degree (or another equivalent degree) and/or a Master’s or Doctoral Degree.
In addition, all H-1B visa applicants must prove of having completed advanced training or have vocational skills and they must qualify to work in development and research projects of the US Department of Defense or any other government positions.
Some of the job positions that make an applicant eligible for the H-1B visa are IT specialists, architects, accountants, professors, doctors, and lawyers, among others.
The H-1B visa is initiated by an employer that is already in the US. However, before the process to take in workers from other countries is initiated, the employer must prove that they are unable to find a quailed American employee to complete the work. This can be any position that requires an individual to possess a higher education degree or have the necessary skills to successfully carry out the job position.
Once the employer proves that it needs employees from outside the country, it receives applications from different candidates and then the H-1B visa process is officially initiated.
