About 9.8 million travellers were screened or passed through security checks over the four-day weekend, or 300,000 more compared to the same holiday in 2019, according to the figures of the Transportation Security Administration.

According to US local media reports, the US holiday air passenger travel surpassed pre-pandemic levels over the Memorial Day weekend, which marks the start of the US summer air travel season, based on the figures of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
“Low levels of delays and cancellations over the holiday weekend are evidence that sector-wide collaboration to improve airline reliability is on the right track. Much more work to come, and we will continue our actions to ensure passengers are supported,” Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg pointed out on Twitter.
According to TSA, on Friday alone, a total of 2.74 million travellers were screened, thus accounting for the highest number in a single day since November 2019.
The FAA also highlighted that Thursday was the nation’s most significant post-COVID traffic, with 54,684 flights.
On Sunday, American Airlines stressed that it cancelled only 13 regional flights, or 0.2 per cent of total scheduled departures, following four consecutive days of American not cancelling flights.
In addition, Industry group Airlines for America has estimated a record total of 256.8 million passengers in the same period before the spread of COVID-19.
The US has seen a significant recovery in the number of visitors from other countries. According to the figures of the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, United States Airlines carried a total of 194 million more travellers in 2022, compared to 2021 statistics, or up by a total of 30 per cent year-to-year.
In addition, the same source also revealed that last year, for a period from January until December, the airlines in the US carried a total of 853 million passengers, or up by 658 million in 2021, and 388 million in 2020.
The figures of the World Tourism Organization UNWTO, previously showed that international tourist arrivals could reach a total of 80 per cent to 95 per cent of pre-pandemic levels this year.
