The Government of the United Kingdom has announced that a total of 45,000 visas for seasonal workers will be eligible for business next year.
The recent decision is expected to provide a boost for the UK’s horticulture industry, VisaGuide.World reports.
The new changes announced by authorities in the United Kingdom mean that businesses will be eligible to recruit internationals engaged in the horticulture industry to travel to Britain and work temporarily, for up to six months through the so-called Seasonal Worker visa route, which is an increase in 15,000 in comparison to those that were available to businesses at the beginning of this year.
In addition, authorities in the UK have announced that this number would be constantly monitored with a possibility to increase by an additional 10,000 if needed.
According to Mirage News, the first 4,000 visas will be eligible to operators next week in order to make sure that daffodil growers have the labour eligible for their harvest at the beginning of the year.
In addition, the government also announced that it plans to appoint new scheme operators in order to help with the efficient operation of visas. It has also been reported that a new team will be focused on making sure that sponsors are abiding by workers’ rights by improving training as well as processes for compliance inspectors as well as creating new clear policies.
“Seasonal labour has long been part of the UK’s rural economy, and while it is right that we offer long-term support to increase the use of domestic labour, we also need to support businesses on the back of what has been a challenging year for food producers,” Farming Minister, Mark Spencer, pointed out in this regard.
According to him, that is why they have listened to Britain’s horticulture industry, stressing that the announcement would provide the UK’s growers with the labour needed to bring in the harvest and also continue to put their products on the table.
In addition, the government of the UK is also attempting to help all industries in order to make employment more attractive to British domestic workers.
At the same time, it has been reported that the government of the UK is also attempting to boost the automation in the food industry with a total of £12.5 million that have recently been announced in order to help the development as well as automation and robotic technologies on farms, which consists on the Farming Innovation Programme in order to back research as well as development in horticulture and agriculture.
Authorities in the UK are continuously attempting to apply new changes to UK visas in order to bring to the country a larger number of foreigners who plan to visit this territory for specific purposes.
