Thailand to Introduce New Medical Treatment Visa Starting From Next Year

The government of Thailand has approved the proposal of the Public Health Ministry to issue visas for internationals coming to Thailand for medical treatment.

In this regard, the deputy government spokeswoman Tipanan Sirichana stressed that the new type of visa is planned for January 1, 2023, after related government agencies are ready for its introduction, VisaGuide.World reports.

According to local media reports, the new visa will permit multiple entries while adding that it is valid for a period of one year. It has also been clarified that the visa holder can stay in the country for 90 days. In addition, three people who are immediate family members are permitted.

At present, authorities in Thailand permit tourists from other countries to reach this territory only if they apply tourist visa or a non-immigrant visa. The exemption also includes travellers from six countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council, also taking into account Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, as well as the United Arab Emirates and China, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam.

Previously, Sirichana stressed that the new rules had been introduced as part of efforts to make this country an international medical hub.

Last month, the Thai Ministry of Public Health unfolded a ten-year plan for a period from 2016 until 2025, which among others, shows how the county could become a leading medical destination in the world, with health care, academic activities, medical services and medical products among priorities.

In addition, the government announced that it would attempt to promote medical tourism together with traditional herbal products while presenting images of herbal cities in order to introduce medical tourism places.

The country’s government announced that it would also offer more intensive training in order to have more doctors who meet higher requirements.

According to a report of EV Express, applicants who plan to benefit from the year treatment visa will be required to present valid evidence of hospital appointment and health insurance as well as financing for treatments of at least 800,000 baht ($22,364).

The figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) show that a total of 4,698,373 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection have been registered in Thailand since the beginning of the pandemic, while 33,037 people have lost their lives due to the virus up to this point.

In addition, the same show that as of September 30, a total of 142,635,014 vaccine doses have been administered in this country.

However, despite such figures, authorities in Thailand announced that they decided to lift the COVID testing requirement for all persons who have completed their immunization process against the virus in April this year in order to ease further the travel process for all internationals planning to enter this country.
