Foreign visitors planning to travel to Thailand by air will be charged 300 baht ($8.84), while those reaching this country by land or boat will have to pay 150 baht starting from June 1.
Such a decision comes following the country’s new approved fees on arrivals from other countries that will become in June, following the travel demand recovery in the tourism sector. VisaGuide.World reports.
However, there will be some exemptions applied in this regard. According to a report by Nikkei Asia, daily travelers, as well as transit passengers, will not be included in the recent changes, nor will children under 2 years old.
According to local media reports, the tax will neither affect internationals with Thai work permits nor travellers with diplomatic and official passports.
The tax has been approved on Tuesday by Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Minister, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, while it has been emphasized that collection of 3.9 billion baht this year will be allocated to accident insurance for tourists who used a total of 300 million to 400 million baht worth of services at the country’s hospitals for a period from 2017 until 2019.
It has been clarified that the new entry fee is separate from the departure tax included in arifares for decades. At the same time, the exit fee differs based on the airport, while Bangkok’s main airport Suvarnabhumi airport charges the most or a total of 700 baht.
Thailand also experienced a decline in the number of international visitors due to the COVID-19 situation, following the travel bans, entry restrictions and other preventive measures introduced to halt the further spread of the virus.
According to the figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 4,727,628 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus in Thailand, while the virus caused the death of 33,894 people.
The same source noted that a total of 138,977,890 vaccine doses have been administered in this country. However, despite such figures the tourism industry in this country has started to ameliorate, thus welcoming a larger number of tourists.
Thailand’s government has said that it expects to welcome a total of 25 million tourists this year, just over half the pre-pandemic total.
A previous report of VisaGuide.World notes that Thailand opened its doors to 11.5 million international visitors in 2022, surpassing last year’s goal set by the country’s authorities. The government of Thailand set the goal of 10 million travelers visiting the territory in 2022.
