For many months Spain has unfolded plans to introduce the Digital Nomad Visa in order to attract internationals who love remote work.
A recent statement published by Spain’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation has revealed that such a visa will be launched in January 2023, VisaGuide.World reports.
According to the statement of the same Ministry, the Congress of Deputies in Spain has approved the Law for Startups, also known as the Law for the Promotion of the Ecosystem of Emerging Companies, which among others, attempts to attract international talents and help the growth of companies.
“The Startup Law includes tax incentives, eliminates bureaucratic obstacles for the creation and investment in emerging technology-based companies, as well as encouraging the attraction of foreign talent and the return of Spaniards through, among other instruments, an agile procedure for the granting of visas,” the statement published by the same Ministry reads.
Last month, the Parliament of Spain approved new rules in order to reduce Corporation Tax for start-ups and digital nomads from 25 to 15 per cent in the first four years of their stay in Spain.
“In addition, it also expands the maximum deduction base for investment in new or recently created companies (from 60,000 to 100,000 euros per year), the type of deduction (which increases from 30 to 50 per cent), as well as the period in which it is considered of recent creation that goes up from 3 to 5 years, with a general character, or 7 for companies in certain sectors,” the statement notes.
According to Spanish media reports, the new law would help all EU countries citizens that haven’t been resident in this country in the past four years to benefit from such a visa that can be renewed for a period of up to five years.
Through the Digital Nomad Visa, internationals are eligible to live in Spain in a legal way while working remotely for companies located in other countries.
It has also been reported that the Startup Law also is attempting to stimulate investment and bring Spain many citizens from other countries as part of efforts to tighten cooperation between companies as well as Universities and research centres.
Such a law has been considered by Spanish authorities as the most significant milestone for this year within the Digital Spain 2026 Agenda, which is an ambitious plan that the Spanish authorities have created.
