Spain Has Reopened Working Holiday Scheme With 200 Additional Places

Spain’s Working Holiday Scheme has been reopened on November 29, with 200 extra places, the authorities have announced.

The scheme was initially reopened with other 200 places available in April 2022, which means that the total of places available for this year has reached 400.

According to a press release by New Zealand’s immigration website, the reopening of Spain’s Working Holiday Visa will ensure the Government’s announcement of doubling the cap for all limited schemes of 2022, to be implemented this year, VisaGuide.World reports.

Increasing the caps for different schemes includes the Working Holiday Schemes that had open occupancies that had their caps doubled on September 8 and remain open. The capped schemes that had been already taken and closed began reopening on a decreasing schedule, with additional places available from September 8. They are set to reopen by early December.

The measure will ensure that each country gets to take advantage of this year’s allocation, indicating that 12,000 more working holidaymakers may come to New Zealand in the next year. Four countries where capped schemes reopened in September include Malaysia, Argentina, Chile and Taiwan.

The New Zealand government previously informed changes to enable access to working holidaymakers in the country and those looking to travel there.

These changes included extending the visas of working holiday makers, whose visas were set to expire between August 26, 2022, and May 31, 2023, by another six months. In addition, doubling the Working Holiday Scheme limits with a one-off surge to recognise the spots that were unused in the previous year due to travel restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“WHS visa holders now have more time to travel to New Zealand after being granted new visas. The new visas give the visa holder a further three months to enter New Zealand. WHS visa holders have until 23.59 on January 31, 2023 (NZDT) to be in New Zealand,” the press release reads.

The country is dealing with a skill shortage in many fields such as construction, finance, business, ICT, Electronics, Telecommunications, hospitality and others fields.

More specifically, the most required occupations include project builders, quantity surveyors, surveyors, chemical engineers, procurement managers, clinical psychologists, diagnostic and interventional radiologists, medical radiation therapists, project managers, programmers, and support officers among others.

According to Statistics New Zealand, the number of employed persons in New Zealand peaked at 2,853 in the third quarter of 2022 compared to 2,820 recorded in the second quarter of the year.
