Russia Introduces New Vaccination Requirement for Foreign Employees

Russia has introduced a new vaccination requirement for all nationals of foreign countries who are currently working in the country or have applied for a work permit.

According to an official statement issued in the legal information portal of Russia, under the new rules, all foreign nationals and their employers must complete vaccination against measles before December 31, 2023, and submit proof to the relevant authorities, VsaGuide.World reports.

The decision of the Russian government was taken in order to “create a sustainable collective immunity to measles to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population in terms of measles in the territory of the Russian Federation”, and such a requirement will start to apply on April 3, 2023, officially.

While those who have not undergone vaccination against measles before will have to do so soon, those who have previously been vaccinated will only be required to show evidence of previous vaccination. Moreover, they must also show a positive antibody test result.

Even though the authorities have not shared any data on the number of foreign workers expected to be vaccinated, it is believed that such a requirement will apply to many as hundreds of foreigners choose to enter Russia for work purposes each year.

All foreigners, except for nationals of Belarus and South Ossetia, need a Russia Work Visa in order to be permitted entry to the country for work purposes.

The work visa of Russia is issued to all foreigners who have already found a job in the country. This type of visa is a single-entry one, and it remains valid for up to 90 days.

Foreigners planning to apply for a Russia work visa must follow several steps and submit the required documents that are crucial for a positive decision on the application.

Russia requires all foreigners applying for a work visa to submit a visa invitation from the Ministry of Interior of Russia, a letter written and signed by the employer, and HIV Test Certificate proving that the test has been taken within the last three months before application.

In addition, some Russia work visa applicants – citizens of the EU, Iceland, Iran, Israel, Monaco, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland – must also submit proof of having purchased health insurance.

Moreover, Russia applies a special requirement to citizens of Australia too. Australian citizens must submit a detailed biography written in Russian.

The cost for a Russia work visa is not the same for everyone, ranging from over €30 to over €500. The cost of Russia work visa is affected by the nationality of applicants, the length of the intended period time, as well as the processing time.
