Foreign nationals to Russia can now register their arrival or the arrival of dependent children under 18 via an electronic form.
According to a press release by the Presidential Office in Russia, the law that allows foreigners to report their arrival online has been announced, VisaGuide.World reports.
“The Federal Law allows foreigners to notify the migration registration agency of their arrival and the arrival of their children under 18 to the place of their stay in Russia using an electronic form and sets out the procedure and terms of sending such a notification,” the press release reads.
The Form will also let foreign nationals know whether they have the right to stay in Russia.
Previous to this announcement, the Russian government revealed that Georgian citizens would be able to travel visa-free to the country, lifting the ban on direct flights between the two countries, which entered force in 2019.
The move, according to Reuters, is intended to bring the two countries closer, and it was welcomed by the deputy economy minister, Miriam Kvrivishvili. Now, Georgians living in Russia can have enhanced mobility and freedom.
However, the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, didn’t welcome the move and rather accused the ruling Dream party of the country of having ties to the Kremlin since being elected in 2019.
“This is a completely unacceptable and inappropriate time. We do not need gifts from Russia masked as some kind of concession. In today’s situation, we are on the same side as all our European friends!” Zourabichvili wrote on her official Twitter account.
Furthermore, the Georgian President noted that her country didn’t need any gifts from Russia and pointed out that the country would align with other European countries. In general, Georgian society is anti-Russian, and thousands of them are living as internal refugees after fleeing Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
At present, citizens of most Soviet republics are permitted to enter Russia without a visa. As per Georgians, Russia imposed a visa regime for Georgians in 2000, claiming the risk of terrorism as the main reason for this decision.
According to Visa Guide World Passport Index, Russia has a passport score of 47.15, ranking the passport 94th at an international level, which allows Russian citizens to travel visa-free to 83 countries.
In the three countries, Russian citizens can travel with an Electronic Travel Authorisation and be passport-free in another country. While there is a visa-on-arrival agreement with 30 countries, and Russian citizens can travel to 11 countries with an e-Visa.
On the other hand, Russians cannot travel to 92 countries, as the visa regime is applied, and Russians aren’t allowed in six countries, with an entry ban effective.
