The President of the Philippines, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has urged for the extension of online visa applications, e-visas, for travelers from South Korea, China, Japan and India, according to the announcement provided by his office Malacañang.
A report of Human Resources shows that the directive by the nation’s leader was introduced during his meeting with the members of the Private Sector Advisory Council’s (PSAC) Tourism Sector, according to, Cheloy Garafil, Communications Secretary, VisaGuide.World reports.
“President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ordered government agencies on Thursday to act on the extension of e-visa for Indian, Chinese, Japanese and South Korean nationals to capture the tourism markets of these states,” Garafil pointed out in this regard.
She considered that, at present, there are still some issues that need to be worked out regarding other jurisdictions that avail of the e-visa platform of the Philippines.
“It will take at least a semester to develop the capability after there is so much anti-fraud element that needs to be consolidated with the platform, and the various countries that will be connecting with the system and with the transactions,” Garafil told News Agency (PNA).
Authorities in the Philippines continue to welcome a large number of international visitors, despite the difficulties caused previously by the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants as well as the preventive measures imposed to contain its further spread.
Presidential Communications Office (PCO) data previously revealed that the Philippines opened its doors to about 2.65 million visitors for a period from February to December last year. These figures reveal that there was marked a notable increase compared to 2021 figures, but still, the numbers are below those recorded before the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants.
The statistics provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) show that a total of 4,074,095 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and its new variants in the Philippines, up to this point, while a total of 65,87 people have died.
However, authorities in the Philippines have considered that the COVID-19 situation has started to ameliorate, thus looking forward to bringing to the country a large number of international visitors.
An effective way to boost the tourism sector in this country is the return of travellers from China. Such an estimation has been made by the Secretary General of the Philippine Travel Agencies Association, Cynthia Lirio.
In addition, it was also reported that the tourism sector’s contribution to the Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) remained at 12.7 per cent in 2019.
