Morocco: About 7,000 E-Visa Applications Processed by Foreign Ministry in Six Months

Nearly 70,000 applications for electronic visas or e-visas were processed by the Moroccan Foreign Ministry in six months.

Such figures have been confirmed by Moroccan Government Spokesman, Mustapha Baïtas, VisaGuide.World reports.

In addition, Baïtas also unfolded plans to permit new states to benefit from such a visa, stressing that the e-visa procedure has helped to attract a larger number of passengers to the Kingdom.

Taking into account the high demand for this kind of visa six months after it was introduced, it was decided to permit other nationalities to benefit from it, following the authorities’ attempts to further expand the system in order to include more countries, according to the government spokesman.

Morocco’s e-visa is a single-entry visa that permits foreigners to stay for a period of 30 days from the date of their arrival in Morocco, while they will have to enter Morocco within 180 days after visa issuance.

Recently, authorities in Morocco announced that they would issue e-visas for nationals of Azerbaijan, Jordan, India and Guatemala, from January 10.

The decision was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco.

“This decision comes within the framework of the efforts made by the Kingdom, at the national and international levels, aimed at the digitalization of public administration services, in particular those related to consular action at the level of diplomatic missions and consulates of the Kingdom,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs pointed out through a statement.

The Ministry considered that such changes would contribute in facilitating the travel process for all citizens of above-mentioned countries, while stressing that the decision is part of Morocco’s efforts to continue to digitalize the administration service, in national as well as internal levels.

The e-visa system of Morocco comes following the country’s authorities efforts to further boost the tourism sector and allow more foreign citizens to come to this county.

Morocco’s tourism industry has been highly affected by the Coronavirus situation and the travel measures imposed to stop its spread and protect citizens’ lives.

In July last year, Moroccan authorities announced the launch of Access Maroc, an online platform created to facilitate the process of holding an e-visa, which is valid for 180 days after being issued.

Back then, officials in Morocco announced that such a service was available for passengers from 49 countries, while it was reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would add other countries to the list.
