Mexico Leads North America’s Tourism Recovery for 2023

Mexico has become a leader in the recovery of tourism in North America, according to a study conducted by Mabrian, a leading provider of tourism data intelligence, presented at the Tianguis Turístico tourism fair in its 47th edition.

The same source said that in the next six months, there will be 18 percent more international flights to and from Mexico compared to 2019. Meanwhile, if compared to last year, the increase is five percent, VisaGuide.World reports.

Mabrian’s data also shows that, in total, the country is expected to mark more than 15 million international arrivals for the next six months, which is 2.35 million more than in the same period in 2019. Among the main airports expecting the highest number of passengers in Mexico are the following:

Cancún
Mexico City
Guadalajara

According to Mabrian, the aforementioned airports account for more than 70 percent of all seats available for air passengers for the next six months.

In addition, the fastest routes from Mexico include Los Angeles, Toronto, and Madrid. As for the list of ten main airports with the most connecting flights, it includes five from the United States and three from Canada.

Mexico has also opened nine new routes compared to 2019, with the newest connection being Paris and its Orly airport, with around 19,000 seats available by the end of September this year.

In this regard, Mabrian’s representative for the Americas, Benjamin Jiménez, pointed out that the data provided by Mabrian show the strength of the tourism sector in Mexico and its capacity for a full recovery from the effects of the pandemic.

The data we have presented at Tianguis reflects the strength of the tourism sector in Mexico and its capacity to recover from the effects of the pandemic. It is a great achievement for the country to lead tourism recovery in North America, while it is also very important that the country continues to promote Mexico as a safe and attractive tourist destination for international travelers,” he said.

Last year, between January and November, the number of international tourists in Mexico had already exceeded the levels of 2019, recording a 16.9 percent increase in international travelers entering the country.

Furthermore, during January and November 2022, foreign currency income from tourism reached $23.5 billion, marking an increase of $3.3 billion compared to the figures before the pandemic.

During the same period, an increase in the average expenses of international travelers was seen by 38.5 percent compared to the same period before the health crisis and 23 percent higher than the figure for the first 11 months of 2021.
