The Israeli authorities have decided to halt the issuance of entry permits for officials of the United Nations, as according to them, these officials have been holding a pro-Palestinian bias.
According to media reports, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel said that the country would no longer issue entry permits for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) officials earlier this week.
Announcing the news, the Israeli authorities said that such a decision has been taken as the OCHA officials have been distorting reports regarding terroristic attacks, VisaGuide.World reports.
Ynet News further explains that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel also accused employees of OCHA of consistently undercounting Israeli victims and of failing to accordingly classify such attacks.
The same source points out that OCHA is also accused by Israeli authorities of reporting the killing of nationals of Israel under ‘disputed’ circumstances while giving priority to reports made by Palestinians and putting the blame on Israel for such casualties.
In addition to the above-mentioned, Ynet News has noted that OCHA has been accused by the authorities of Israel of being biased before too.
The Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, is one of the people leading the persistent battle against the agency. Erdan has required that the report includes the attacks against Jews in Jerusalem and the West Banka.
According to the same source mentioned above, Erdan has addressed the issue of attacks against Jews several times now to the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, and has argued that the agency failed to mention the terrorism Jewish victims in its reports.
Erdan said that OCHA is not showing the truth and it is distorting information in its reports. In addition, he also said that the agency is ignoring the victims.
In addition, Erdan said that they must fight discrimination and stressed that there is no reason to permit entry to the country for these officials as long as they “support terrorism”, and at the same time called for the country to make a decision on the matter as soon as possible as Israel does not need “people who lie about what is happening”.
“Jewish lives matter and we must fight this discrimination in any way possible. There is no reason to continue to allow the entry of UN officials who lie about what’s happening in Israel and support terrorism against it,” the statement of Erdan reads.
Following the accusations made by the Israeli authorities, the UN is expected to come out with an official statement and give further information on the matter.
