The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services have revealed that the initial registration period for the H-1B cap, the fiscal year 2024, will open on March 1, at noon, and will remain open until March 17, at noon as well.
The dates have been revealed in a press release issued by USCIS on Friday, January 27, in which it has been noted that between March 1 and 17, prospective petitioners and representatives will be eligible to register through the online H-1B registration system, VisaGuide.World reports.
At the same time, the US Department of Treasury has temporarily increased the daily credit card transaction limit from $24,999.99 to $39,999.99 for the FY 2024 H-1B cap season in a bid to deal with a possible higher volume of H-1B registrations, like it happened last year, when applications exceeded the daily credit card limit.
“Prospective H-1B cap-subject petitioners or their representatives are required to use a myUSCIS online account to register each beneficiary electronically for the selection process and pay the associated $10 H-1B registration fee for each registration submitted on behalf of each beneficiary,” the USCIS points out in its statement.
It further explains that prospective petitioners submitting their own registrations, which are collectively known as “registrants” and include US employers and US agents, will have to use a “registrant” account, which they will be able to create starting from February 21, at noon.
Each registration submitted online through the H-1B registration system for the fiscal year 2023 will receive a confirmation number, which is used for tracking registration. The agency also clarifies that this number cannot be used to track a case status in the Case Status Online.
Representatives who wish to extend the list of their clients in their account after initial registration can do so only after March 1. A fee of $10 fee is required for each new addition.
“Prospective petitioners or their representatives will be able to submit registrations for multiple beneficiaries in a single online session,” the agency highlights while adding that the account will enable both petitioners and representatives to prepare, edit, and draft registration before the final submission.
Regarding the selection of registration, there are two scenarios that could happen. If enough registrations are submitted, they will be randomly selected by the agency. The same will receive a selection confirmation through the myUSCIS online accounts.
Whereas if there aren’t submitted enough registrations, USCIS will select all properly submitted registrations and notify account holders by March 31 at the latest.
The H-1B visa is a US work visa that enables US companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations which usually cannot be filled by Americans. Workers coming to the US on this visa are crucial for many US companies, including here Amazon, Infosys, Microsoft, Google, etc.
