India: E-Visa Facility to Be Available Again for UK Passport Holders Traveling to the Country

The High Commission of India in the United Kingdom has announced that the country has decided to start rolling e-Visas once again for those holding a British passport.

According to a statement by the High Commission of India on its official Twitter account, the e-Visa facility will be available for all nationals of the UK travelling to India and the same pointed out that the visa website will soon be ready to receive applications, VisaGuide.World reports.

“Team HCI London is delighted to confirm that the e-Visa facility will again be available for UK nationals travelling to India,” the High Commission of India in the UK wrote on its official Twitter account.

Additionally, the High Commission of India in the UK said in the same statement that the system upgrade is in progress and stressed that everything will be ready soon.

Times of India explains that it is not clear yet the e-Visas will start rolling out. However, India’s Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, Vikram Doraiswami said that everyone will be informed on time about the next steps.

In addition, Vikram stressed that everyone would continue to be able to benefit from the same services as before, such as accepting the visa at the doorstep.

”We’ve been updating you about our visa situation from time to time. The big news today, of course, is that we are rolling out e-visas once again. So welcome back, e-visas are up ahead and all of our other services, of course, including visa at your doorstep, remain available to you,” the statement of Vikram reads.

According to the Times of India, the e-Visa for India is one of the fastest ways to reach India for travel purposes. The same notes that the application process is simple too.

It is believed that the e-Visa service for India was suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic. While e-Visa services were reinstated for around 156 countries last year, the one for the UK did not. Nonetheless, now those wishing to reach India will be able to benefit from these services.

India’s e-Visa has a total of five sub-categories – e-Tourist Visa, e-Medical Visa, e-medical Attendant Visa, e-Business Visa, and e-Conference visa.

For e-Tourist Visa, applicants from eligible countries need to apply online at least four days before the date of arrival in the country.

The official e-Visa website of India highlights that once the payment is done, the e-visa fee is non-refundable and the same notes that the “fee is for processing of the application and is not dependent on either Grant or Rejection of Electronic Authorization (ETA)”.
