Authorities in Hong Kong have decided to abolish the rest of the COVID-related restrictions in order to further ease the travel process.
Following the example of other countries worldwide, authorities in Hong Kong also kept in place strict entry rules and other travel restrictions in order to prevent a surge in the number of infections, VisaGuide.World reports.
It has been reported that Hong Kong has lifted its COVID-19 app and also a ban on foreigners visiting bars as well as restaurants within three days of arrival.
Such restrictions were kept in place for about three years now and have led to a significant financial loss.
A report provided by Al Jazeera shows that residents have been urged to use the application “LeaveHomeSafe” in order to prove that they have been vaccinated against the virus, and also record their entry at restaurants and clubs and gyms.
However, authorities in Hong Kong have estimated that the COVID-19 situation has ameliorated, and thus decided to further ease the travel process.
The decision has also been welcomed by the flag carrier of Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific.
“The adjustments will help further boost sentiment for travel, especially among inbound visitors, thereby facilitating the resumption of travel activities and strengthening of network connectivity at the Hong Kong aviation hub,” Cathay Pacific pointed out in a statement.
The further abolishment of restrictions imposed due to the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants is expected to help the travel and tourism industry to recover after being profoundly affected by such restrictions.
In this regard, the HKG executive director for airport operations Vivian Cheung stressed that the airport feels confident that air traffic will come back, adding that it is just a matter of time.
“We are now at 15 per cent of capacity recovery. Before June, we were between 2-4 per cent. The demand is there, but the supply is slow,” she pointed out in this regard.
According to a report provided by Routes, the airline is planning to offer nearly 1.16 million seats across its network, in December this year, or an increase of 30 per cent compared to the previous month’s figures. In addition, the subsidiary HK Express has also surged capacity by a total of 50.1 per cent to 178,646 seats month-on-month, based on the data published by OAG Schedules Analyser.
Authorities in Hong Kong have introduced such a decision after estimating that the epidemiological situation permitted the lifting of restrictions.
