Hong Kong Introduces New Plan to Attract Global Talent

Authorities in Hong Kong have unfolded their plans to introduce new measures in order to bring to the country a large number of talents from countries worldwide, which would also help the growth of the economic sector.

According to a statement provided by the Cooperate Immigration Partners, the new measures to attract international talents include:

Introducing a new office for Attracting Strategic Enterprises (OASES)
Introducing a new Top Talent Pass Scheme for internationals earning more than HKD 2.5 million per year and who have graduated from a top university in the last three years
Enhancing requirements following the Technology Talent Admissions Scheme by abolishing local employment quota requirements
Reduce requirements for some visitors to file an application for an employment visa when participating in short-term business activities in Hong Kong

“Hong Kong has advanced infrastructure in both hardware and software, a sound legal system and top-notch talents from all over the world. An open and diversified metropolis where old and new styles meet, Hong Kong is also an appealing city embracing both Chinese and Western cultures,” the Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, pointed out in this regard, VisaGuide.World reports.

Lee also stressed that the proposed Co-Investment Fund would focus on co-investing in individual projects of the target enterprises, considering their potential to drive the industry development in Hong Kong.

“The OASES to be established within this year will be tasked with attracting high-potential and representative strategic enterprises from around the globe, particularly those from industries of strategic importance, such as life and health technology, artificial intelligence and data science, financial technology, and advanced manufacturing and new energy technology,” Mr Lee said.

Hong Kong has also been highly affected by the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants. Due to its spread, the territories’ authorities imposed several preventive measures that aimed to prevent the virus’s further spread and also protect citizens’ lives. However, such restrictions significantly damaged many industries in this country.

In addition, authorities in Hong Kong also kept in place mandatory quarantine rules that were lifted last month.

Following the decrease in the number of COVID-19 infections, authorities in Hong Kong decided to lift the majority of the restrictions imposed to halt the further spread of the virus.

Lee stressed that many sectors in Hong Kong are facing manpower shortages, including in the construction and transport sectors while stressing that the relevant bureaux would listen to the views of these industries and also put forward solutions regarding the situation in several sectors.
