Dubai Introduces New System That Requires No Passport for Travellers’ Identification

Travelers to Dubai will soon be released from the requirement to present a passport, following the new biometric system that facilitates the traveling procedures and makes the experience more pleasant.

The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) has launched a new system, which eliminates the need for a passport or other boarding pass at Dubai’s airports, VisaGuide.World reports.

The technology uses facial and iris combined recognition, which is considered a sufficient identification tool, and it provides a secure and efficient way for passengers to fly. The new system applies to all expatriates, visitors, and Emirati nationals whose data has been registered in the database since 2019.

In addition, all biometric information is stored in the GDRFA system, which is used for future trips in that way that travelers don’t have to stop by or undergo unpleasant and long waiting queues to have their travel documents checked.

Dubai is leading the way in aviation technology, and the new biometric system is just one of the city’s measures to facilitate traveling and make it more convenient for passengers. This new system aims to offer passengers a trip where they can sit back, relax, and enjoy their flight.

According to the official website of Dubai’s government, the city received more than 23.7 million passengers in 2022, with 107,082 passengers arriving on New Year’s Eve alone. In addition, 95,445 passengers reached the city via airports, while 6,527 arrived via Hatta Border Crossing and 5,010 reached via marine ports.

These numbers represent an 89 percent increase in passenger traffic compared to 2021, with the total number of all arrivals surpassing the 23-million mark. In addition, 21.8 million of those used airplanes as a means of transportation, over 1.6 million crossed the Hatta Border Crossing, and another 242,700 passengers used seaports.

On the other hand, in 2021, the Dubai emirate welcomed 12 million people arriving from airports, 399,083 via Hatta Border Crossing and 83,700 through marine ports.

Airports Council International (ACI)’s report for 2022 shows that Dubai Airports are ranked first in the region and internationally and kept their position in global competitions, also being ranked first by the Legatum Prosperity Index for tolerance toward foreigners.

In addition, VisaGuide.World previously revealed that the United Arab Emirates has the strongest passport in the Middle East, as it allows holders to travel freely to 129 world countries, with an e-visa to 14, visa-on-arrival to 37 and another give with an eTA.

On the other hand, the passport index shows that United Arab Emirates’ passport ranks 25th internationally, falling behind Iceland and Liechtenstein while it stands ahead of New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The Emirati passport has a passport score of 86.04 and no entry ban.
