The Chinese authorities have announced that the multiyear multi-entry visas that have been issued to nationals of the United States before March 26, 2020, will continue to remain suspended.
According to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United States of America, these types of visas will continue to remain suspended as the country needs to make adjustments to the system and take relevant measures in view of the epidemic situation, VisaGuide.World reports.
Despite making such an announcement, the Chinese embassy in the US highlighted that US citizens holding a multiyear multi-entry visa who need to go to China can do so by applying for a new visa.
As for tourism as well as medical treatment visa applications, the Chinese authorities said that they are temporarily not being accepted.
“At the current stage, multi-year multiple-entry visas issued before March 26, 2020, are still suspended of use. If such visa holders need to go to China at this stage, they can apply for a new visa according to the requirements of this notice. Visa applications for tourism and medical treatment in China are temporarily not accepted,” the statement of the Chinese consulate in the US reads.
Commenting on the current situation, a spokesperson of the Chinese embassy said that China continues to make changes to its system. Moreover, the spokesperson emphasized that transit, business, family reunification, and settlement visas have been resumed.
Regarding the issuance of the other visa types, the spokesperson said that the authorities will make sure to make changes that would allow them to resume their activity as before.
All citizens of the US are required to apply for a visa in order to be able to enter China. When applying for a China visa, citizens of the US must submit a valid US passport, a completed application form, a passport-sized photo, proof of residency, previous Chinese visas if applicable, proof of accommodation, and proof of itinerary.
Depending on the visa type, US citizens may be required to submit additional documents too.

As mentioned above, one of the reasons why China decided to keep multiyear multi-entry visas issued to Americans before March 2020 suspended was the COVID-19 situation in the country.
The number of Coronavirus infection cases started to increase significantly in China in recent weeks. Data provided by the World Health Organization show that China has recorded a total of 139,417 cases in the last seven days.
