Canada to Welcome Over 1.45 Million Migrants in the Next Three Years

A total of 1.45 million migrants, including Nigerians, will be received in Canada by 2025, the country’s government has said.

According to the Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Sean Fraser, the plan will help the county get the workforce that is needed in different fields, including health care, technology, and manufacturing, building on a total of 405,000 immigrants it welcomed in the last year, VisaGuide.World reports.

The report provided by Punch says the Canadian new plan is called Canada’s 2023-2025 Immigration Levels Plan.

In this regard, the Minister stressed that last year authorities in Canada welcomed more than 405,000 newcomers, accounting for the largest number of immigrants to the country welcomed in a single year. Authorities in Canada are counting on that ambition by imposing new targets in the new levels plan of a total of 465,000 permanent residents in the next year, a total of 485,000 in 2024 and a total of 500,000 in 2025.

“The plan also brings an increased focus on attracting newcomers to different regions of the country, including small towns and rural communities. This year’s immigration levels plan will help businesses find the workers they need, set Canada on a path that will contribute to our long-term success, and allow us to make good on key commitments to vulnerable people fleeing violence, war and persecution,” the statement reads.

The Executive Director of Canada’s Building Trades Union, Sean Strickland stressed that the country’s Building Trades Unions are pleased with the announcement to rise immigration levels in Canada.

“Historically it has been through immigration that we have been able to grow our workforce, fill our union halls and build Canada’s infrastructure. Increased economic immigration is an important step to addressing labour availability across the country and we look forward to continuing to work closely with Minister Fraser and the Federal Government to find the solutions we need going forward,” Strickland pointed out in this regard.

According to the data provided by Canadian authorities, the country’s population has reached more than 39 million, according to last year’s census while almost one in every four people is born abroad.

A recent survey provided by the Environics Institute of Canada, together with Century Immigration revealed that citizens of Canada more than ever are supporting the increased immigration. In addition, the same survey reveals that about 70 per cent of Canadians who participated in this survey disagreed when asked if Canada’s immigration levels were too high.
