The Canadian authorities have announced that the country has marked a record-breaking year for processing immigration applications.
According to the Government of Canada, the Immigration, refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has reduced the pandemic backlogs by almost half a million applications in only four months.
The same revealed that at the end of November 2022, IRCC processed about 4.8 million applications, which is almost twice the 2.5 million processed during the same period in 2021, VisaGuide.World reports.
“To help strengthen our immigration system, IRCC has digitized applications, hired and trained new employees, streamlined processes, and harnessed automation technologies to increase processing efficiency while protecting the safety and security of Canadians,” the statement of the government of Canada reads.
The Government of Canada further revealed that IRCC also processed a high number of study permits so far this year. Data show that as of November 30, 2022, IRCC has processed more than 670,000 study permits, which is a significantly higher number compared to the 500,000 study permits processed last year.
Due to the efforts that IRCC has made, the majority of new study permits are being processed within a 60-day period.
As for work permits, the Canadian Government has pointed out that they also saw improvement. Data show that almost 700,000 work permits have been processed by IRCC by November 30 of this year, a considerably higher number in comparison to 223,000 processing made during the same period in 2019.
Apart from the above-mentioned, it has been highlighted that the Canadian authorities also continue reducing backlogs and processing visitor visas.
Government figures show that Canada is processing more visitor visa applications than before. In November 2022 alone, more than 260,000 visitor visas were processed, surpassing the number registered in November 2019, when only 180,000 applications were processed.

Regarding permanent residence, the Government of Canada has revealed that the country welcomed an all-time high of 405,000 new permanent residents in 2021 and it remains on track to reach the target of over 431,000 new residents in 2022.
IRCC has been modernizing all of its services as well as adding support from permanent residence programs so that clients are able to receive better service and not be subject to long waiting times. Additionally, it has been highlighted that due to these efforts, the new spousal sponsorship applications are processed within 12 months and new Express Entry applications are processed within six months.
Previously, VisaGuide.World reported that Canada will permit spouses of temporary workers to obtain a work permit. Such a measure has been taken in order to help the country deal with labor shortages, and around 200,000 temporary workers are expected to benefit from it.
