The Canadian authorities have announced that bus drivers will now be able to apply for permanent residence in the country through the Federal Skilled Worker program of the Express Entry system.
It is believed that Canada decided to take such a decision due to the high demand for school bus drivers, VisaGuide.World reports.
In line with the current rules that Canada has, all foreign bus drivers are eligible to apply as Federal Skilled Workers provided that they meet certain requirements.
Bus drivers and people with other occupations eligible for permanent residence in Canada through the Federal Skilled Worker program must meet the minimum requirements for skilled work experience, language ability, and education.
Those that meet all the minimum requirements will then be assessed based on their age, education, work experience, English and/or French language skills, adaptability, and whether they have a valid job offer.
“These factors are part of a 100-point grid used to assess eligibility for the Federal Skilled Worker Program. You earn points for how well you do in each of the 6 factors. The current pass mark is 67 points,” the Canadian government stresses.
Bus workers applying for a job in Canada must prove that they have had experience in the same occupation within the last ten years. Moreover, they must prove that they are ready to work in this occupation for at least one year of continuous work or 1,560 hours total.
“You must show that while working in your primary occupation, you performed the duties set out in the lead statement of the occupational description in the NOC. This includes all the essential duties and most of the main duties listed,” the statement of the government of Canada reads.
Regarding language ability, it has been noted that skilled workers are required to undergo writing, reading, listening, and speaking tests. In order to pass the language test, skilled workers aiming to legally reside in Canada must get a minimum score of Canadian Language Benchmark 7 in all abilities.
Apart from bus drivers, the Canadian authorities announced earlier in November 2022 that another 15 jobs have also been added to the list of eligible occupations under the Federal Skilled Worker program.
The newly added occupations are payroll administrators, dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants, nurse aides and patient service associates, pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants, elementary and secondary school teacher assistants, sheriffs and bailiffs, correctional service officers, estheticians, electrologists, residential and commercial installers and servicers, pest controllers and fumigators, transport truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, and aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors.
With the changes made recently, all foreigners having the occupations mentioned above can also apply for residence in Canada under Express entry. In addition to the newly added occupations, the list includes tens of others.
