The authorities of Azerbaijan have announced that the country will soon open its embassy in Israel. Such an announcement was made last week following the parliament’s approval of the proposal.
The move was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Israel, Yair Lapid, who said that Azerbaijan is ‘an important partner’ as well as pointed out that the latter is also home to one of the largest Jewish communities, Visa-Guide.World reports.
Through an official statement, Prime Minister Lapid stressed that the decision to open an embassy in Israel confirms once again the strong relationship that the two countries have.
“This move is the result of the Israeli government’s efforts to build strong diplomatic bridges with the Muslim world,” the statement of Prime Minister Lapid reads.
Azerbaijan and Israel have been focused on strengthening their relationship in the last few years. In April 2021, Azerbaijan opened its first tourism office in Israel as well as signed a cooperation agreement.
Moreover, Jewish News Syndicate explains that Israel purchases around 40 per cent of its oil from Azerbaijan. The same source notes that Israel supplied about 27 per cent of major arms imports from Azerbaijan from 2011 until 2020.
In line with the current rules that Azerbaijan has, nationals of Israel are eligible for visa-on-arrival, meaning that they can obtain a visa valid for up to 30 days as soon as they show up at any international airport in Azerbaijan.
However, now that Azerbaijan will open an embassy in Israel, the latter’s nationals will be able to apply for a standard visa.
The standard visa of Azerbaijan is a document granted to travelers who submit an application at the embassy in their country of residence. Depending on the purposes of entry to Azerbaijan, the country issues entry and transit visas. An entry visa is valid for a period of up to 90 days and its can be granted as a single or multiple-entry visa.
The single-entry visa of Azerbaijan allows travelers only to make one entry-exit during the 90-day period. On the other hand, the multiple entry visa, whose validity period is up to two years, permits its holders to enter Azerbaijani several times during a relevant period.
Those applying for an Azerbaijani visa must fully complete the visa application form and hold a passport valid for at least another three months beyond the intended period of stay.
Additionally, everyone must submit two identical recent photos, medical insurance, the receipt of the visa fee, and the application submitted by the inviting party. Additional documents may also be required depending on the purpose of entry to Azerbaijan.
