Australian Organisations Urge for Kanye West’s Visa to Be Blocked Following Racist Slurs

Entertainer, Kanye West might not be able to visit Australia, as human-rights organisations there are invoking the government to block West’s visa.

According to Australian media, the Anti-Defamation Commission, which is a Jewish-Australian community organisation, claims that West’s entry into the country might cause a “significant risk to the Jewish community, thus, are calling on Australian Immigration Minister Andrew Giles to refuse West’s entry to Australia, VisaGuide.World reports.

Australia’s Migration Act regulated that an overseas traveller’s visa can be refused because of the so-called character test, which prevents the subject to obtain a visa if their past or present leads to Immigration Minister to consider the applicant “not of good character”.

These measures follow anti-semantic declarations on behalf of Kanye West, who due to these statements, has had his Twitter account temporarily suspended.

The organisation referenced Drink Champs interview, recorded in November, during which Kanye West said that Jewish people “owned the Black voice” and in another interview for Infowars, he said he praised Adolf Hitlers and denied the Holocaust, saying it was factually incorrect that six million Jewish people were killed during this period.

“Allowing Kanye into Australia would also send the wrong signal about our nation and violate our core values of tolerance, diversity and respect. At a time of rising antisemitism in Australia and increasing vilification, his presence in the country, revolting anti-Jewish propaganda and incitement, and abhorrent rhetoric poses a significant risk to the Jewish community,” Dvir Abramovich, the chairman of Jewish-Australian community organisation the Anti-Defamation Commission, said.

He also noted that the entertainer can be dangerous, considering the more than 30 million followers he has. According to Abramovich, these people may start believing in the demonisation of the Jewish community.

The entertainer’s declarations caused havoc which also led to professional consequences such as Adidas ending the partnership with Yeezy, Balenciaga cutting off all ties to West and his Yeezy products being removed from Gap storage. In addition, he has two athletes; Jaylen Brown and Aaron Donald left the Donda Sports agency and his Donda Academy, named after his late mother, was closed.

In addition, a lot of collaborators West have distanced themselves from the entrepreneur and entertainer’s comments, such as Pusha T, John Legend, Eric Andre, Diddy, Howard Stern and his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.

Kanye West has won multiple awards for his work, with two of the latest ones being Grammy Awards for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Favourite Gospel Artist at American Music Awards, both received in 2021.
