Australia to Soon Offer Work & Holiday Visa for Young Indians

The Department of Immigration of Australia has announced that the country will start offering Work and Holiday visas for young nationals of India within two years.

The news was confirmed by an official of the Australian Department of Immigration. The official said that following the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), Australia will permit eligible citizens of India aged between 18 and 30 years old to apply for a Work and Holiday visa within two years of entry into the force of ECTA, VisaGuide.World reports.

In addition, the same said that with this type of visa, young Indians will be able to visit Australia for one year, and during this time they can undertake short-term work and study in the country while visiting new places.

“Australia will put in place arrangements to allow eligible Indian citizens aged between 18 and 30 to apply for a Work and Holiday visa to visit Australia for one year and undertake short-term work and study while holidaying,” the statement of the official reads.

SBS Hindi explains that the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement will officially enter into force on December 29, and under this agreement, around 1,000 young Indians will be able to benefit from the Work and Holiday visa each year.

The same source emphasized that the Australian Department of Immigration official said that as it was announced on April 2, the country will permit temporary entry as well as temporary stay in Australia for up to 1,800 qualified Indian traditional chefs as well as yoga instructors entering the country as Contractual Service Suppliers of India.

Currently, Australia has the same program in place with 47 other countries. Regarding the matter, a spokesperson of the Department of Home Affairs of Australia said that the country’s government thinks that the Working Holiday Makers make an important economic and cultural contribution to Australia and, at the same time, pointed out that they help in filling labor gaps.

In addition to the above-mentioned, SBS Hindi noted that the Working Holiday Maker program consists of the Work and Holiday Visa as well as the Working Holiday visa and said that the move is promising.
