The Government of Australia has announced a two-year extension of post-study work rights for foreign graduates with degrees in fields of verified skill shortage in an effort to strengthen the pipeline to skilled work.
According to the announcement of the country’s government, the new changes will become effective starting from July 1 this year, VisaGuide.World reports.
“The extension is in addition to the existing additional one to two years of post-study work rights available to eligible students who study, live, and work in regional areas. The allowable work hours cap will also increase from 40 hours a fortnight to 48 hours per fortnight,” the statement reads.
Authorities in Australia unfolded plans to apply such new changes last year, while, according to Study Australia, the list of relevant degrees has now been released, following the recommendations of a group of industry experts.
Extended post-work rights attempt to fill in labor shortages noted in several industries in Australia.
It has been reported that the new amendments, under the Temporary Graduate Work Visa, the period for graduates of listed qualifications will raise as follow: four years for bachelor degree graduates, (up from two years previously) and five years for Master degree graduates (up from three years) and six years for doctoral graduates (up from three years).
Authorities in Australia announced that the new changes have been introduced in addition to the current additional one to two years of work rights for all students who study, work, and live in regional territories.
In order to benefit from the extension persons must meet the needed requirements for the Post-Study Work stream of the Temporary Graduate visa and also ensure that their qualification is included on the list of eligible qualifications.
In addition, all those who hold a Temporary Graduate Visa that is set to expire before July 1, are also eligible to apply for the recent extension, however, in this case, they will be granted a two-year Temporary Activity Government Endorsed Events visa instead of a further Temporary Graduate visa.
The Australian government has recently made several efforts to facilitate the travel process and enable a larger number of internationals to remain in this country.
Earlier this month, Australian authorities said that they would grant permanent visas to thousands of refugees who have lived in this country on temporary visas, allowing them to permanently remain in this country, in addition to the new changes applied to the Australian visas.
