Japan Starts Procedures to Exempt Qataris From Visa Requirement

The Japanese authorities have started the visa waiver procedures for Qatari passport holders who currently need to obtain a visa in order to be permitted entry to Japan for all kinds of purposes.

Announcing the news, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said that the procedures officially began on April 2, 2023, and the same revealed that the process will be based on three main procedures, VisaGuide.World reports.

According to the official, citizens of Qatar need to submit their passports as well as the passport registration application form to any Japanese diplomatic mission. Moreover, they must make sure that before they do so, their passport will be valid for another six months.

Once the applicants submit the required documents, the Japanese diplomatic mission will return their passport containing the visa waiver registration stamp on the next day, Zawya explains.

In addition, the same source notes that all citizens of Qatar who hold a passport containing the visa waiver registration stamp will be permitted to enter Japan multiple times without requiring them to obtain a visa for stays of up to 30 days.

While as soon as the procedures are completed, those who plan on staying in Japan for 30 days will not be asked to undergo visa-obtaining rules, the case is not the same for others.

The Japanese authorities stressed that citizens of Qatar who plan to stay in the country for more than 30 consecutive days as well as those for business purposes, will need to obtain a pre-entry visa. This suggests that the entry exemption will be restricted to visitors, while those entering Japan for other purposes will need to apply for the appropriate pre-arranged visa.

Currently, most foreigners who want to visit Japan need to apply for a visa in order to be permitted entry into the country.

Those who need a visa and are planning to enter Japan for travel purposes are required to apply for a Japan Tourist Visa.

When applying for this type of visa, all applicants must submit the completed Japan Tourist Visa Application Form, their passport, a flight itinerary, a daily itinerary, a residence certificate, and proof of sufficient financial means.

Moreover, tourist visa applicants must also submit their latest income tax returns, a letter of employment (if employed) and civil status documents.

The processing time for a Japanese Tourist visa is around five working days. However, depending on the type of examination the authorities plan on carrying out, the processing time might get extended.
