The return of post-pandemic tourism in Brazil last year could have been faster than the international average, according to the federal state-owned agency Embratur.

The same said that the figure is equivalent to a total of 100,000 more passengers compared to the same month in 2019 and 2020 before the spread of the Coronavirus, VisaGuide.World reports.

Embratur noted that in 2019, a total of 756,883 foreign tourists visited Brazil while in 2020 the figures stood at 750,457, emphasizing that compared to December, the increase was 109 percent when 414,752 travelers from other countries visited Brazil.

The agency foresees that over 1.28 million foreign passengers will travel to Brazil this year, while the majority of them will come from Argentina as well as the United States. At present, the country’s government is experiencing a moment of reopening to other countries, expecting to bring to Brazil a large number of visitors in order to promote dialogue as well as international cooperation.

The same notes that the primary destinations experiencing an increase in passengers are Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador, lorianópolis, Porto Alegre, Recife, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, as well as Brasília.

It was reported that in January, visitors from other countries spent US$604 million in Brazil, according to the figures provided by the Ministry of Tourism.

The figures registered in January this year represent an increase of 3.8 per cent compared to January 2020, while compared to 2022, the improvement reached a total of 43.5 per cent.

The data provided by the World Health Organization (WHO) reveals that a total of 37,076,053 COVID-19 infection cases have been registered in Brazil since the beginning of the pandemic, while a total of 699,276 people have lost their lives due to the virus.
