Thailand Welcomed 11.5 Million Visitors Last Year, Marking Strong Recovery

A total of 11.15 million tourists visited Thailand last year, thus surpassing the country’s authorities’ goal set for last year.

In 2022, authorities in Thailand set the goal for a total of 10 million travellers to visit the country, VisaGuide.World reports.

However, the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants and the restrictions imposed to contain its further spread led to a significant decrease in the number of international visitors, thus causing profound losses to the country’s economic sector as well.

The figures provided by the World Health Organization (WHO), reveal that since the beginning of the spread of the Coronavirus, Thailand registered a total of 4,726,512 cases of COVID-19 infection, while a total of 33,836 people lost their lives.

The same source shows that as of November 11, a total of 137,976,764 vaccine doses against the Coronavirus and its new variants have been administered in Thailand.

Despite such figures, authorities in Thailand decided to ease the restrictions imposed to contain the further spread of the virus, thus helping the country to recover from the significant financial loss caused by the Coronavirus and its new strains.

In 2021, the country registered 428,000 visitors, while last year’s figures show that there was recorded a notable increase in the number of international visitors.

The Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Thailand have considered last year’s figures as a strong recovery for the country’s tourism sector, which was highly affected by entry rules and quarantine measures.

According to Thaiger’s report, last December alone, a total of 2.24 million visitors reached the country, compared to 230,497 registered the year before. Before the spread of the Coronavirus, Thailand welcomed about 40 million international visitors.

At the same time, last year, the Ministry revealed that Malaysia, India and Singapore accounted for the three main countries supplying visitors to the kingdom.

Authorities in Thailand expect to welcome a total of 25 million travellers this year, with the focus on bringing to the country at least five million visitors from China alone.

In this regard, the government announced that it approved nearly four million in order to boost the domestic and international tourism sector. Through the campaign called “We Travel Together,” it has been reported that a total of 560 hotel room nights will be available.

In addition, the government also said that it would use the money in order to provide a total of 40 per cent discount on room rates as long as the discount is not more than 3,000 baht per night.
