Mexican and Russian diplomats are having discussions on the possibility of lifting visa requirements for both nationals, as the Russian media reports citing the Mexican embassy in Russia.
According to Russian media, it is still unclear when the flights to and from Mexico and Russia will be operated again but the authorities are working for visa-free travel aspirations, VisaGuide.World reports.
Last year, Russia’s Federal Agency for Tourism (Rotourism) issued travel advice against countries that imposed sanctions against Russia over the military attack in Ukraine. This indicates that countries that have banned or imposed any sanctions against Russian citizens will be off the travel list from Russian citizens who are advised not to visit such places.
According to Rotourism, several destinations, including Latin American countries, are not available to Russians willing to visit these countries, following the airspace restrictions of the European Union and Canada.
Previously, Russian media reported that the country is working to establish visa-free travel for nationals from several countries, especially GULF and Latin countries. More specifically, Russia is planning to lift visa requirements for nationals coming from Malaysia, Barbados, the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, Saint Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, and Haiti.
“Similar agreements are currently under work with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and Zambia. Moreover, we are currently in discussions with Hong Kong to extend the visa-free regime term of stay from 14 to 30 days,” Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov said.
On the other hand, Russian citizens are not permitted to visit many countries due to an ongoing ban imposed after the military attack on Ukraine occurred. Among these countries that ban Russian tourists are Finland, Latvia, Czechia, Estonia, Lithuania, and Poland.
However, Russia has some agreements in place with other countries, such as Angola, Benin, Australia, Djibouti, Kenya, India, Kuwait, Singapore, and Lesotho, where Russian tourists can obtain a visa on arrival. With other countries such as Bahrain, Cambodia, Burundi, Cabo Verde, Egypt and Comoros, Russia has an e-visa agreement, which allows tourists to obtain a visa online to reach these countries.
Moreover, Russia has a similar agreement with these countries, too; Mauritania, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Gabon, Rwanda, Saudi, Arabia, Sierra, Leone, Lebanon, Madagascar, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Myanmar, Nauru, Nepal, Somalia, Guinea-Bissau, Iran, Jordan, Tanzania, Timor-Leste, Togo, Tonga, Zimbabwe, Tuvalu, Uganda, and Zambia.
In general, Russia has a visa-free agreement with 87 countries and another visa-on-arrival agreement with 32 countries, while tourists can obtain a visa online for ten countries.
