Quebec Could Welcome 112,000 Immigrants per Year, Canadian PM Says

The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has said that Quebec is able to open its doors to a total of 112,000 immigrants per year, according to the Immigration Canada report.

Trudeau estimations rubbish claims made previously by provincial Premier Francois Legault, VisaGuide.World reports.

Canada’s PM has said that the French-speaking province could make the majority of those who enter this territory francophone.

“Quebec at the moment is fully capable of welcoming 112,000 immigrants a year,” Trudeau pointed out.

In addition, Trudeau threw accusations towards Quebec authorities for the labour shortages that the province is facing, emphasizing the issues businesses are having with bringing new staff.

“There are entrepreneurs in the Beauce unable to carry out contracts because they can’t hire enough people,” he pointed out.

Such comments made by the Prime Minister of Canada contradict Legault’s comments who said that for Quebec it would be suicide to open its doors to more immigrants than the roughly 50,000 set out in the immigration levels plan.

According to the figures provided by Immigration Canada, a total of 22 per cent of Canada’s population is entitled to the same proportion of the annual immigration intake.

The government has unfolded plans to welcome 465,000 internationals next year, meaning that Quebec has the right to open its doors to a total of 102,300 foreigners but it has chosen not to do so.

It was reported that businesses in Quebec have urged the province to increase immigration in order to fill in labour shortages noted in many industries.

Authorities in Canada announced that they plan to increase immigration to 500,000 per year by 2025.

Canadian officials stressed that the employment rate in October marked a record high among immigrants.

In this regard, the figures provided by Statistics Canada revealed that immigrants accounted for the largest share of the population in more than 150 years back in 2021, stressing that employment has also surged over the years, while emphasizing that as of 1.45 million migrants, taking also into account Nigerians will be welcomed in Canada by 2025.

In addition, Sean Fraser, the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, stressed the plan would help the territory bring the workforce that is needed in different fields taking also into account technology, health care, manufacturing, and also building as of 405,000 immigrants that it received last year.
