The German authorities have announced that they have signed an agreement with India on migration and mobility, which will make it easier for qualified young Indians to reach Germany for study, professional, and work purposes.
The German-Indian Migration and Mobility Agreement was signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, yesterday, December 5, during a visit to India.
As soon as the agreement was signed, the Ministry of Interior of Germany came out with an official statement saying that the aim of this agreement is to promote the mobility of students, professionals, and trainees. Moreover, the same said that the agreement also aims to combat illegal migration, VisaGuide.World reports.
The Minister of Interior of Germany, Nancy Faeser, also commented on the agreement. Minister Faeser said that this agreement will ensure that the country will no longer deal with such an enhanced labour shortage as young Indians will be able to study, receive training, and start working in Germany.
Additionally, Minister Faeser revealed that in line with the new agreement, Germany will also facilitate the return of nationals that must leave the country and said that the authorities will provide clear procedures for the identification of those that are being sent to their country of origin and for their repatriation.
“We are setting the course for qualified young Indians to gain professional and practical experience in Germany, to study, to receive training start or work as a skilled worker This is another important step in attracting skilled workers that we urgently need in the German labour market. At the same time, we are jointly and consistently countering irregular migration and fighting human trafficking,” Minister Faeser stated.
In addition to the above-mentioned, the Ministry of Interior of Germany said that the agreement aims to promote the fair mobility of specialists, and pointed out that a joint group will be set up for the implementation of the agreement. The same noted that the new rules will apply to citizens of both countries that wish to find employment in Germany and India.
The rules set out in the new migration agreement also apply to students as well as specialists, journalists, trainees, and scientists from Germany and India.
The most recent figures provided by the German authorities show that almost 200,000 nationals of India live in Germany. While the majority of those hold a valid residence permit the authorities highlighted that more than 5,000 nationals of India reside illegally in the country.
Moreover, the authorities revealed that around 25,000 students from India are pursuing their studies in Germany.
