Authorities in Canada are experiencing a significant labour shortage, thus widening National Occupational Classification (NOC) list for Permanent Resident (PR) Visa under the online system Express Entry.
In addition, it is preparing to welcome a large number of immigrants by 2025, VisaGuide.World reports.
Canada added 16 new occupations including nurse aides, and teacher assistants to the list in order for more persons to be eligible for PR visas.
The new occupations added to the list are the following:
Payroll administrators
Dental assistants as well as dental laboratory assistants
Patient service associates and nurse aides
School teacher assistants
Sheriffs and bailiffs
Correctional service officers
Transport truck drivers
The online system Express Entry has been designed for skilled persons planning to immigrate to Canada on a PR visa.
Under this scheme, all persons who plan to go to Canada on a PR visa are obliged to create a profile on Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). The selected applicants can benefit from the Canadian PR visa for a period of five years.
Recently it was reported that the economy of Canada lost nearly $13 billion in the past year due to a significant labour shortage noted in the manufacturing sector alone, according to the recent report of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME) recent survey.
Earlier this month, authorities in Canada announced that the country plans to admit as of 1.4 million immigrants in the next three years in order to manage the current labour shortage that the country is facing.
In this regard, Canadian Immigration Minister, Sean Fraser, announced that the country would present new selection tools in order to help its immigration system better target sectors such as construction and health care in which sectors the labour shortage is noted the most.
The Immigration Minister also stressed that the latest immigration targets of Canada are 456,000 permanent residents during the next year, a total of 485,000 in 2024 and half a million the following year in 2025.
“We can’t afford to keep bringing doctors here who aren’t able to work as doctors, we can’t afford to bring skilled tradespeople here who aren’t working as skilled tradespeople,” the Minister added.
In addition, an economist at the Royal Bank of Canada, Carrie Freestone, considered the decision to prioritize industries that are subject to labour shortages very positive, according to Financial Post.
