Ecuador is the most recent country that has decided to launch a new digital nomad visa, offering a low cost of living as well as good quality of life.
The new digital nomad visa of Ecuador has been described as an easy-to-acquire visa and it will allow its holders, to maintain legal residence for up to two years and to work from anywhere in the country, VisaGuide.World reports.
Announcing the new digital nomad visa, the Ecuadorian authorities said that remote workers will be able to enjoy diverse and fascinating regions, live multiple adventures, stay connected, try quality establishments and services, and live in a biosecure country.
The digital nomad visa of Ecuador is officially known as the Rentista for Remote Work visa and in order to be able to obtain such a document, the applicants must have the following documents:
A passport that is valid for a minimum of another six months
Clean police record
Proof of source of income of at least €1,266 per month
Health insurance valid in Ecuador
In addition to the above-listed, all applicants are required to pay a processing fee of €460 when applying for Ecuador’s digital nomad visa.
Regarding the proof of income, Ecuador Travel has explained that the salary of remote workers must be three times higher than the basic monthly salary of Ecuador.
“Demonstrate income from a foreign source of at least three unified basic salaries per month, of the three months prior to the visa application, or have a total of 36 unified basic salaries for each year,” the statement of Ecuador Travel reads.
Moreover, the same has emphasized that all applicants must attach documents that prove that they work or provide services for a person or company abroad.
“You can also apply if you have the documentation that shows that you are the owner of a company or company registered and domiciled abroad,” Ecuador Travel added.
While the rules for applying for Ecuador’s new digital nomad visa are quite simple, not all foreigners are eligible to apply. The Ministry of Tourism has prepared a list of countries whose nationals are eligible to apply for the visa and it does not include a total of 28 countries.
Nationals of Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Cameroon, North Korea, Cuba, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Philippines, Gambia, Ghana, India, Iraq, Iran, Kenya, Libya, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Syria, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Venezuela, Vietnam, and Yemen, and not permitted to apply for Ecuador’s digital nomad visa.
Apart from Ecuador, several other countries have similar schemes in place, allowing remote workers to legally reside in the country.
Malaysia is also one of the most recent countries that have decided to launch a digital nomad visa. The Malaysian authorities said that all those who hold this type of visa will be able to remain in the country for a specific period.
